Tell us a little bit about your education and career pre-Virti

A passion for learning, and understanding the ways in which others learn best, has driven my career so far. It was while studying for my degree in Psychology that I first discovered this calling.

By the time I graduated in 2017, I knew that a career as a psychologist just wasn’t for me. But I was keen to jump into a career in which I could apply all that I’d learnt. And that’s why I decided to take a leap into the education and training sector. After cutting my teeth at an educational technology charity, as both a project co-ordinator, I was ready for an exciting new challenge and grabbed the opportunity to join the Virti team with both hands.

When (and why) did you Join the Virti team?

When I joined Virti in October 2020, I was looking for a team in which I could not only continue to learn and progress in my career, but also help make a real difference in the world. And Virti was the perfect fit. I was completely taken with their mission to improve human performance by making experiential training affordable and accessible to all, and this still motivates me today.

Can you describe your role at Virti? What does a ‘typical’ day look like?

Well, there’s really no such thing as a typical day, as it can vary massively! But this is what makes my role so exciting. With the team currently growing, I’m often making sure that everything is ready for a new starter, preparing their onboarding programmes and helping them to feel welcome.

Alongside this, I’m supporting Chris, our Talent Acquisition Specialist, with recruitment; so, I’ll spend some of the time reviewing applications and interviewing potential candidates. Additionally, I’ll work with Mark, our COO, to ensure that the entire Virti team has everything they need to be successful and happy in their roles. My role is truly non-stop and so rewarding.

What skills did you bring to the team, and what skills have you developed since joining?

My background in Psychology has proven extremely useful! And it’s been great to be able to put that into practice. Along with my previous work experience, it’s definitely helped me when working to improve Virti’s HR processes, including recruitment and onboarding.

Since joining Virti, I’ve also learnt so much from my colleagues. Our team boasts such a great variety of people with a vast array of experiences to share. In particular, I’ve had the opportunity to develop my people management skills and HR knowledge. I feel so lucky to be in a role where I can continue to develop my skills, and I’m excited to further these by completing my CIPD qualification later this year.

What excites you about being part of Virti?

First and foremost, I’m motivated by Virti’s mission to improve human performance and increase accessibility to skills. On top of this, we have a fantastic company culture, where every individual is valued and supported to produce their best work. As a company, we’ve achieved so much over the past couple of years and there’s certainly no slowing down. It truly feels like the sky's the limit!

What’s your proudest achievement (so far) as part of the Virti team?

Without a doubt, my proudest achievement is the work I’ve done to help revamp and improve our onboarding programme. As onboarding is one of my central responsibilities, I’ve put a lot of energy into developing it and am so proud of our current programme. Having a strong onboarding process is vital when growing a team and it’s been so gratifying to receive such amazing feedback from our new hires who have completed it.

How have you found working remotely since the start of the pandemic?

The flexibility has been great - especially when I’ve needed to focus on a particular task or project. But I have definitely missed the social aspect of being in an office. At Virti, we’ve really tried hard to replicate this while working remotely, so I’ve enjoyed lots of regular Zoom coffee catch-ups, game nights and Friday Zoom pubs!

Since restrictions have eased, it’s been so great to meet more of the team in person.

Looking ahead, what do you think the rest of 2021 holds for Virti? What are you particularly looking forward to?

Virti is currently experiencing an extremely exciting period of hypergrowth. Having already welcomed some incredibly talented people to the team this year, I’m looking forward to helping recruit and onboard many more.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Hobbies, talents, projects etc…

Yoga, spinning, hiking, you name it... I’m currently tackling my own personal mission to walk as many of the UK’s peaks as possible over the next year!
During the pandemic, I also moved to Bristol, so I still have plenty of exploring to do and am making the most of the city’s amazing food scene.
