Tell us a little bit about your background
I have a BA in History and an MA in Film and TV Production, both from the University of Birmingham. When I finished university, I decided I wanted to pursue a career in marketing; working in social media offered the perfect opportunity for me to utilise my video editing skills for content creation. This career path first led me to work as the in-house digital marketing specialist at an international B2B food and drink media outlet, and now I’m honing my social media skill-set at Virti!
When (and why) did you join the Virti team?
I joined the team in July 2021, so I'm fairly new - but I didn't stay the newbie for long! I was ready for the next challenge after my previous role, and working for a start-up has been challenging for sure. It is, however, equally rewarding because you get to be a part of the company’s growth and watch new projects come to life, which is very exciting.
When did you first become interested in virtual and augmented reality technology?
Before I joined the Virti team, virtual reality technology was a fairly alien concept to me. However, I was very keen to discover more about it, and over the past year I have learnt so much about the benefits of VR and never cease to be amazed by what the tech team does. I’ve even been given an Oculus headset to try out and can confirm it’s been a lot of fun!
Can you describe your role at Virti? What does a ‘typical’ day look like?
No day is ever the same, which is one of the best things about working at Virti. I’m responsible for implementing the social media marketing strategy so I’m the one creating content and posting to our social media channels. One day I could be scheduling posts and editing videos for YouTube, the next I could be analysing post data and researching influencers to collaborate with.
What skills did you bring to the team, and what skills have you developed since joining?
Before I joined, there was never one person at Virti who focused solely on social media. I have a lot of previous experience creating content calendars and posting strategies which were essential for building up Virti’s social media channels. At Virti, learning is actively encouraged so it’s been great to have the chance to develop skills, in areas such as SEO and PPC, that will ultimately help level up our social channels even more.
What excites you about being part of Virti?
Working at a tech start-up brings a unique culture that is both challenging and exciting. Though we’re a fairly small team (for now), each individual is focused on working towards the same goals. Every team member at Virti is constantly innovating and ultimately creating something important; it motivates me to be a part of that.
What’s your proudest achievement (so far) as part of the Virti team?
I'm proud to be responsible for creating consistently engaging content for our social channels. Recently we reached 1,000 followers on Twitter, and my plans are to keep that going up and up!
Looking ahead, what do you think the rest of the year holds for Virti? What are you particularly looking forward to?
Virti is growing fast and is only going to get bigger. We're currently in a state of hyper-growth, and I’m looking forward to watching this trajectory continue. On a personal level, I aim to translate this growth into our social media channels, and can’t wait to see every other individual innovate and grow their specialist area.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
One of my biggest passions is art, and I paint for fun but also do commissioned portraits of people and pets. I've also recently started planning a flat renovation project with my partner; work starts soon, which will be chaotic, but I’m looking forward to getting stuck into it.
