In this week's Meet the Team, we talk to Otis Mondir - Marketing Automation Manager!
As Marketing Automation Manager at Virti, Otis focuses on the strategy and implementation of our marketing output. His carefully-crafted processes and hugely popular email campaigns help take our lead management and customer engagement to the next level.
Tell us a little bit about your background
My background is quite multicultural. I was born in the UK but I lived in France until I was 18. I then decided to come back to the UK for university and to improve my English. I completed a BA(Hons) in International Business, which included a study year abroad in Barcelona. After completing my undergraduate degree, I enrolled in an MSc Marketing after being offered a sports scholarship for athletics.
When and how did you first become interested in virtual and augmented reality technology?
I couldn’t put an exact time or date to this, but I’ve always enjoyed video games and that’s where I first encountered VR. Obviously the technology has come a long way since, and is now much more affordable than it was, but I instantly found it amazing how you could be immersed in a virtual environment. Fast forward to the day I came across Virti, and learnt about the company’s mission and its solution: offering organisations an immersive learning platform with scalable content and the ability to deliver training through XR and VR. Definitely something I wanted to be a part of!
When (and why) did you join the Virti team?
I joined the Virti team in August 2021. I came across Virti on LinkedIn and was really interested in the solution the company was working on. When I applied and spoke to Virti members, it felt like there was a really happy and positive atmosphere, so I didn't hesitate in applying!
Can you describe your role at Virti? What does a ‘typical’ day look like?
As Marketing Automation Manager here at Virti, I work to improve our marketing operations and sales processes through automation, workflow implementation and many more aspects. It’s also my responsibility to improve lead management processes, marketing data, marketing automation & software tools, tracking performance and reporting to the wider team. I also often work cross-functionally to help our Account Executives with sales-enablement tasks and report on the sales funnel.
What skills did you bring to the team, and what skills have you gained or grown since joining?
I have learnt a great deal about working cross-collaboratively across the organisation as it’s not only critical for my role but for the wider company too. I’d say I’ve hugely developed my interpersonal skills in that area, having to work on automation projects for either the sales, customer experience, or product development teams. I also regularly engage with the executives and wider organisation to give weekly reports on the marketing team’s key metrics and analytics.
How does working at Virti differ from your experiences at previous jobs? What excites you about being part of Virti?
The connection within the marketing team has been awesome. Charlie Parkin, Marketing Content Manager at Virti, has nailed so many projects, from video content to live workshops. And Heather Burrell, our Social Media Marketing Specialist, has been instrumental on the lead generation side of things, which has made my job so much easier and it’s always a pleasure to work together. I’d also never worked this closely with a sales or product development team before, but this cross-team collaboration really informs our approach to marketing.
Looking ahead, what do you think the rest of the year holds for Virti? What are you particularly looking forward to?
I’m really excited for the months ahead. We have seen huge improvements on the product side of things, and the marketing team is really well aligned strategically and cross-functionally. Additionally, the sales team has done some great work with prospecting and attending key events in our target sectors.
More specifically, I can’t wait to see what we can achieve as a marketing team now that we’ve massively optimised our processes and have a much more strategic approach. I’m also excited about the new changes we are making to the brand and our website, as well as seeing how our new free trial system and ‘open book’ approach to the product will perform!
What’s your proudest achievement (so far) as part of the Virti team?
I’m very proud of having made some huge improvements to our Customer Relationship Management software (CRM) and implemented some key workflows for operations reporting and sales-enablement. More particularly, we’ve advanced the mapping and implementing of the lead/lifecycle management process for the Account Executives, alongside some key automation processes to ensure that this is streamlined for the team and that we are as operationally efficient and effective as possible.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I absolutely love sport and live for it! Pre-covid and whilst I was at university, I used to be an 800m athlete for Bristol & West AC. I also used to play football and various other sports. Besides this, I love travelling to new places and seeing different cultures, so I’m always on the lookout for the next adventure abroad.
Do you have any hidden talents or fun facts about yourself to share?
Maybe not a hidden talent as such, but more hard work and a lot of determination. When I was racing at a competitive level for 800m, my personal best was 1:55.88, which I ran in Manchester. Aside from that, my first language is French (despite what most people at work or in the UK might think!). And I can also speak a bit of Spanish!
