Tell us a little bit about your background

I didn't go down the conventional route after school. Instead, I got an apprenticeship with Vodafone in their technology department and completed a degree part-time within the scheme. After that, I moved to London and worked as a developer for a little while, before getting a role at IBM, where I started my sales career. Since then I’ve been at a couple of different SaaS businesses before joining Virti.

When did you first become interested in virtual and augmented reality technology?

I already knew a lot about VR/AR before joining Virti – it was something I had enjoyed many times before in a gaming environment. But it wasn’t until I discovered its more practical applications (like experiential training) that I became really excited about the potential of VR/AR.

When (and why) did you join the Virti team?

I joined Virti 6 months ago, in October 2021. I actually first heard about Virti through a friend, Owen Evans, who works as Virti’s Customer Success Manager. We had a catch up over FaceTime and Owen wouldn't stop talking about how great his job was. I was intrigued and did a little background research. Luckily, I found that Virti were hiring for Account Executives, so I seized the opportunity and applied.

Can you describe your role at Virti? What does a ‘typical’ day look like?

I’m an Account Executive. At its core, my job is about educating potential customers on how immersive training can help organisations to overcome the challenges they face in delivering learning. My day can really vary, ranging from writing proposals to delivering demonstrations to customers. And all the while I’m keeping myself up to date on the latest market insights and trends.

What skills did you bring to the team, and what skills have you developed since joining?

I'm really interested in the art of sales, so I try to bring lots of new ideas and tips to the team. I've also been learning lots about ‘challenger sales’ – an approach which involves disrupting customers’ current way of thinking. This helps me to fulfil my role as an educator to customers, encouraging them to consider different possibilities and recognise and embrace the potential of VR.

What excites you about being part of Virti?

Virti has made amazing progress in helping customers to implement VR/AR within a healthcare environment – I'm excited to help in developing this further. But I’m also raring to expand into new industry verticals and explore many other use cases for the technology.

What’s your proudest achievement (so far) as part of the Virti team?

I'm proud of the small day-to-day improvements I've contributed to in making our team that bit more streamlined and efficient, such as optimising our internal sales process with automation and building relationships with VR hardware providers. I also recently won an internal award, Q1 Virtual(ly Perfect) Human award, voted for by my peers, for being the person who has most consistently demonstrated the Virti culture, values and behaviours.

Looking ahead, what do you think the rest of the year holds for Virti? What are you particularly looking forward to?

I’m excited by some of the new Virtual Human scenarios and avatars that are coming soon, that’s going to really open a lot of doors to customers looking to build soft skills training in VR. We’re also launching a new sign-up process for prospecting clients so they can ‘try-before-you-buy’ which looks awesome. I’m also excited to get more face to face meetings with potential clients as lots of people start to return to the office.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I'm a fair-weather motorcycle rider and regular CrossFit goer, but I mostly spend my time walking my dog, Otis, a Welsh Terrier.
